New Delhi: Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel starrer 'Gadar 2'  has beaten 'The Kerala Story' record. After collecting a historic Rs. 55.40 crores on Independence Day holiday, the film managed to collect Rs. 34.50 crores at the box office on Wednesday, industry tracking site Sacnilk reported. This takes Gadar 2's total domestic box office collection to Rs. 263.48 crores. As per the same site, 'Gadar 2' had an occupancy rate of 56.09% on Wednesday.

Despite clashing with Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi starrer 'OMG 2' and Karan Johar's 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani', 'Gadar 2' has created a significant dent in the market.

As per a Box Office India report, had 'Gadar 2' released solo, the film would have done great business even then.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh has even created an opinion poll on Twitter to ask from his users if Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2' will cross the biggest film of this year, Pathaan's lifetime box office collection.

Meanwhile, 'Gadar 2' has already crossed the lifetime collection of 'The Kerala Story' which collected Rs. 242.20 crores.

'Gadar 2' has largely received glowing reviews from audiences. The Twitter review of the film was very favourable. Fans had even called 'Gadar 2' a 'cinematic experience', 'masterpiece', 'a film about love and sacrifice' and the very best.

Meanwhile, a section of the audience has called out the weaponization of patriotism in 'Gadar 2'.

On the other hand, 'OMG 2' which was also released alongside 'Gadar 2', continues to do decent business at the box office.

'Gadar 2' is the sequel of the 2001 film 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha' which also starred Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in the film. The film in 2001 had collected some Rs. 130 crores at the box office.

Recently, at a press conference, Sunny Deol spoke about the success of 'Gadar 2' and said, "I promise all my fans that I’m only going to make good films like these. They say films for ‘masses’. What do you mean by that word? Public is public and that means everyone/"
