New Delhi: Veteran playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam left for his heavenly abode on Friday (September 25). after suffering a cardio-respiratory arrest.He was 74. The singer's son SP Charan said that he passed away at 1.04 pm and thanked the hospital authorities for their service. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan took to social media to offer his condolences to SPB’s family members. The ‘Bigg Boss 14’ host said that he is heartbroken after hearing the news of the singer's demise.

“Heartbroken to hear about #SPBalasubrahmanyam sir... you will forever live on in your undisputed legacy of music! condolence to the family #RIP,” Salman tweeted.



Balasubrahmanyam lent his voice for several hit Salman Khan's films including 'Maine Pyaar Kiya', ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun' and 'Hum Saath-Saath Hain'. The National Films Awards winner's condition deteriorated on Wednesday (September 23) and he was put on maximal life support. When the 'Radhe' actor came to know about singer's health condition, Khan prayed for his speedy recovery.

"Bala Subramaniam sir . All the strength hope wishes from the bottom of my heart to a speedy recovery n thank u for every song u sang fr me n made special your dil dewana hero prem, Love u sir," Salman wrote.



SP Balasubrahmanyam was admitted to Chennai's MGM Healthcare after he tested positive for COVID-19. He was shifted to the ICU after his condition worsened on August 13. Earlier this month, his son revealed that the singer had tested negative for Coronavirus. He said that the doctors couldn't take his father off the ventilator due to the condition of his lungs.

"In a further setback this morning, despite maximal life support measures and the best efforts of the clinical team, his condition deteriorated further and he suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest. With profound grief, we regret to inform that he has passed away on September 25 at 13.04 hours," the hospital said in a statement.

SP Balasubrahmanyam, who was fondly known as SPB, recorded over 40,000 songs in 16 different languages in his star-studded career spanning over five decades.
