Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam or popularly known as Bala was an Indian playback singer, music director, actor and producer of the Indian film industry. He was shifted to MGM Healthcare in Chennai on August 5 and shifted to the Intensive Care Unit after his health deteriorated, , post which he was tested positive for Coronavirus. On 8th September, the singer had tested negative for the novel disease but was continued to be kept under ICU and ventilator supervision. Also, after being diagnosed with the deadly virus, SP Balasubrahmanyam also released a video from the hospital on August 5 to confirm the news. Lately, the news of the singer being 'extremely critical' came out and on September 25, the 'Maine Pyar Kiya' singer left for his heavenly abode.


The ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ singer predominantly worked in the Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam industry. Born on June 4, 1946, in Nellore, the singer has recorded 40,000 songs in 16 languages and holds the Guinness World Record for recording the highest number of songs. The veteran singer is also a recipient of civilian awards such as ‘Padma Shri’ and ‘Padma Bhushan’ from the Government of India.

Bala made his debut with ‘Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna’, a Telugu film on December 15, 1966 and since then there was no stopping for the singer as he kept on adding feathers in his cap. SP Balasubrahmanyam has the rare distinction of rendering the most songs in a single day as he had recorded 16 Hindi songs and 19 Tamil songs in one day. The late singer came to international prominence with the 1980 film ‘Sankarabharanam’. He also received the National Film Award For Best Male Playback Singer for his work.

Born into a Telugu Brahmin family, he was married to Savitri and has two children, daughter Pallavi and son S.P.B. Charan who is also a playback singer and film producer.
