Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has set the cash registers jingling after the release of ‘Sooryavanshi’. The action drama co-starring Katrina Kaif has turned out to be the perfect Diwali gift for the film industry, which was severely affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Khiladi Kumar’s magic has worked wonders for ‘Sooryavanshi’ as the movie has crossed the Rs 120-crore mark in the first week. 


'Sooryavanshi' minted Rs 8.30 crore on Thursday (November 11), taking the total collected to Rs 120.66 crore. Bollywood critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to social media to share the first week box office collection of the film. 


Adarsh said that Rohit Shetty’s movie has ended the dry spell at the box office. He tweeted, “#Sooryavanshi reboots the #Hindi film industry, ends the dry spell at the #BO… Packs an IMPRESSIVE TOTAL in Week 1… All eyes on Weekend 2… Fri 26.29 cr, Sat 23.85 cr, Sun 26.94 cr, Mon 14.51 cr, Tue 11.22 cr, Wed 9.55 cr, Thu 8.30 cr. Total: ₹ 120.66 cr.” 


Considering the buzz surrounding the film, trade pundits were expecting ‘Sooryavanshi’ to set the box office on fire. The highly anticipated flick has performed as per the expectations in key markets like Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi.  


Rohit Shetty is one of the few directors, who has delivered back-to-back hits. His last few releases including ‘Simmba’, ‘Chennai Express’, ‘Golmaal Again and ‘Dilwale’ had crossed the Rs 100-crore mark. 


Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn’s special appearance received praises from the audience. Ranveer and Ajay reprised their respective roles of Simmba and Singham in ‘Sooryavanshi’.
