Mumbai: Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani starrer 'Shershaah' has been making waves ever since the trailer of the film was released. The movie, which is based on the real life events of Kargil War between India and Pakistan, will showcase the story of Captain Vikram Batra. The 'Marjaavaan' actor has revealed his inspiration behind taking the role of Captain Vikram Batra, who is considered as the hero of Kargil war. Malhotra said that a meeting with Vikram's twin brother Vishal Batra in 2016 inspired him to take up the role.

Malhotra said that he was 'gripped emotionally' by the way Vishal described his brother's life. Interestingly, the actor met Vishal Batra with a different team.

“I first met with Vishal Batra around five years ago, at the time with a completely different team. He and his family had approached me to discuss the potential of telling Vikram’s story and I must say I was immediately gripped emotionally by the way Vishal described Vikram’s life and his character – his charm, his courage and his all-round personality”, the 'Hasee Toh Phasee' actor said.

Sidharth approached Karan Johar's production and they came on board in no time.

“We couldn’t make it work at the time, but it was a story I believed needed to be told. I approached Dharma Productions and they were immediately on board and 5 years on we are so pleased with the end product”, Malhotra added.

The 'Kapoor & Sons' star was elated when Vikram's family members felt that 'Shershaah' would perfectly represent his legacy.

"Doing his family proud was the priority for me, not commercial success. We’ve been on this five year journey together and It was vital we got this right. Vishal told me that he had never visualised his brother on the battlefield before, but now when he sees me in Shershaah he can”, the 'Ek Villain' actor concluded.
