Thousands of people gathered in Bhiwandi, on the outskirts of Mumbai, on Wednesday evening after rumours surfaced that Bollywood Salman Khan was coming to distribute food and money to the needy. In videos that have surfaced on social media, large number of people, gathered amid lockdown ignoring the rules of social distancing.


The incident took place on Wednesday evening in Khandupada locality of Bhiwandi, largely dominated by minorities presently fasting during the ongoing Ramzan month.


According to the police, last evening a sudden rumour claiming that Salman Khan would be coming to distribute relief materials spread like a wildfire prompting hundreds of excited fans to rush out of their homes.


The security personnel posted there had a tough time convincing the crowd that there was no scheduled visit by any celebrity to the area and they should immediately return home in view of the lockdown.

Meanwhile, Salman has started 'Being Haangryy', a food truck facility, to distribute food and ration to those in need.

On a related note, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state by the coronavirus pandemic in the country with 39,297 positive cases of the novel coronavirus, claiming 1,390 lives in the state so far.
