Sushant Singh Rajput Case: NDPS Court Accepts Rhea Chakraborty's Plea To De-Freeze Bank Accounts And Return Seized Gadgets

A Mumbai court has accepted Rhea Chakraborty's plea to de-freeze her bank account, a year after the NCB arrested her in connection with Sushant's death case.

Mumbai: A Special NDPS Court has accepted Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty’s application to de-freeze her bank account and release her gadgets, which were seized last year during an investigation in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case. According to a report in ANI, the court ordered the Narcotics Control Bureau to return her laptop, mobile phone and other gadgets.  

Rhea, while filing an application, said that NCB froze her bank accounts without any reason. She said that the action caused 'injustice and prejudice' to her as she needed the bank accounts to pay her bills and taxes. The anti-drugs law enforcement agency froze the bank accounts and Fixed Deposits by issuing a notice after Chakraborty's arrest in an alleged drugs case linked to Sushant Singh Rajput's death.

The NCB initially objected to Rhea’s plea to de-freeze her bank account, a report in Live Law said. The investigating officer later submitted a reply before the court, stating that he was leaving the matter to the judge’s discretion, the report added.  

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020. Three Central agencies including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate are probing the high-profile case, which grabbed several eyeballs last year.

Sushant's father KK Singh had filed a complaint against Rhea Chakraborty, her family members and others under various sections of the IPC at Patna's Rajiv Nagar Police station. He accused Rhea of abetting his suicide. The CBI took over Sushant's death case in August 2020 after the Supreme Court directed the federal agency to conduct a probe into the matter.

The Narcotics Control Bureau, which is probing the drug angle in SSR's death case, arrested Rhea Chakraborty and her sibling Showik Chakrabort under various sections of the NDPS Act. The Bombay High Court had granted bail to Rhea on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. She walked out of Mumbai's Byculla Jail after spending 28 days behind the bars. Her younger brother was granted bail in December 2020.

On the professional front, Rhea was last seen in Anand Pandit's 'Chehre'. The suspense thriller co-starring Amitabh Bachchan, Emraan Hashmi and Krystle D'Souza released in August 2021.
