New Delhi: Producer Ritesh Sidhwani recently confirmed that the third installment of Shah Rukh Khan’s action thriller Don is on the cards. He shared that the film, to be directed by Farhan Akhtar, is currently in the scripting stage. While the franchise and Shah Rukh Khan’s fans were elated to hear the news, the latest development might leave them disappointed.

According to the latest reports, SRK will not be a part of the third installment and Ranveer Singh will replace him in the movie. Ranveer has done films like Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) and Gully Boy (2019), with Excel Entertainment in the past.

“Following Shah Rukh’s exit, the makers of Don 3 were looking for a popular and bankable name who could take the Don legacy ahead. And they have finally zeroed in on Ranveer. This association has borne fruit in the past and it will be no surprise if the collaboration proves to be another runway hit. We’re waiting to see how fans of the Don franchise react to Ranveer’s casting considering Shah Rukh won over everyone with his charismatic portrayal of Don,” News18 quoted its source as saying.

According to the report, the makers of the film will soon be dropping the announcement video.

“The audience is awaiting the announcement will bated breath. In fact, the video featuring Ranveer has already been shot and the production house is planning to release it without further delay,” the source told News 18.

Earlier, while confirming the third installment of the franchise Ritesh Sidhwani had told PTI, “Till my partner (Farhan Akhtar) finishes writing it, we won’t do anything. Right now, he is in the phase of completing the script… Even all of us are eagerly waiting to see ‘Don’.

Akhtar and Sidhwani’s banner Excel Entertainment bought the rights to the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer 1978 film of the same name and remade it with Shah Rukh and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in the lead. The first Don released in 2006 and the second installment came out in 2011 with SRK and Priyanka reprising their characters. Both the films were directed by Akhtar.
