Rajkumar Hirani changed the box office game forever with his super-successful films like 'Munna Bhai MBBS', 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai', '3 Idiots', and 'PK'. Hirani is one of the few filmmakers in the industry who has managed to make socially realistic films and turn them into massive blockbusters.
PK’s script was like Inception
Rajkumar Hirani's 'PK' starred Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma. Recently, in an interview, Hirani shared that the script of 'PK' was very similar to Christopher Nolan's 'nception'. Speaking to Galatta Plus, Hirani said that when they were writing 'PK', 'Inception' had already been released, and the similarities between the two made them change the film to avoid being accused of copying Nolan's material.
"When we started writing PK, Inception came out, and we realized our film was similar to Inception. PK had the power of getting into people’s minds and changing what they had experienced in their lives. Because we felt, you become cynical about certain things if you have experienced life in a particular way. So if your experience can change, your cynicism will not be there, and you become a different person. So we had gone down that path. Then we realized that if we did this, it would look like we have copied Inception," he said.
PK similar to OMG?
Hirani added that when they started writing the script where PK ends up in a courtroom, Akshay Kumar's 'OMG – Oh My God' had been released. So, PK then looked similar to that film. "We started writing something else. Then OMG – Oh My God came out, which is also… We had taken that path as well, of him going to the courtroom. So, the second half kept on changing," Hirani said.
The filmmaker explained that they went through many revisions for the second half and were not satisfied with anything. "Then we shot 20 minutes of it all over again, so all these things put together took a lot of time," he said.
