New Delhi: Actress Priyanka Chopra has, for the first time, disclosed the real reason she began looking for work outside of Bollywood, in the United States. When Priyanka made the decision to pursue a music career in America, she was already one of the most well-known Bollywood stars. She has now admitted that the kind of work she was receiving from Bollywood did not make her the happiest.
Speaking to Dax Shepherd on his podcast Armchair Expert, Priyanka said she was going to discuss the real reason she began looking for a job in the US, for the first time on the show because she felt 'safe' during their conversation. When she was filming for 'Saat Khoon Maaf', she claimed that Anjula Acharia of Desi Hits noticed her in a music video and called her. She asked if the actress would be interested in a music career in US.
Priyanka, at the time, was also looking for a way out of Bollywood. "I was being pushed into a corner in the industry (Bollywood). I had people not casting me, I had beef with people, I am not good at playing that game so I kind of was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break,” she said. “This music thing gave me an opportunity to go into another part of the world, not crave for the movies I didn't want to get but I would require to schmooze certain clubs and cliques of people. It would require grovelling and I had worked a long time by then that I didn't feel like I wanted to do it,” she added.
Hence, she claimed, "when this music thing occurred, I was like, I'm going to America." She talked about all the famous singers she had collaborated with, including Pitbull, Will.I.Am, Pharell Williams, and even JayZ. Although her musical endeavours did not succeed, she soon realised she was 'much better at my day job.'
Then someone advised her to apply for acting jobs in the US as well. Which she did, ultimately landing her the starring position in 'Quantico' on ABC. After then, Priyanka appeared in 'Baywatch', 'Matrix: Revolutions', 'The White Tiger', and she just announced that 'Citadel', her second programme, would soon be her lead project. In May, she will also be seen in the romantic movie 'Love Again'.
Priyanka Chopra also has the Bollywood film 'Jee Le Zara' in her kitty that stars Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt as well.
