OMG 2: Pankaj Tripathi Shares Disappointment On Film Receiving A Certificate, Says 'Target Audience Won't Watch'

Pankaj Tripathi has expressed his displeasure over the A certificate given to his upcoming movie OMG 2 in a statement. He told the media that the target audience is between the ages of 12 and 17.

New Delhi: Pankaj Tripathi has expressed his displeasure over the A certificate given to his upcoming movie OMG 2 in a statement. At a press conference for the film, he told the media that the target audience is between the ages of 12 and 17. OMG 2, which also stars Yami Gautam and Akshay Kumar and is directed by Amit Rai, is scheduled to hit theatres on August 11. Pankaj, who was there at the ceremony, was startled to see the movie receive an A, according to a DNA report.

Talking about OMG 2 getting an A certificate, Pankaj Tripathi said, "We were surprised to receive an A grade. This is due to the fact that, before filming a movie, we already know whether or not it will receive an A certificate, as in the case of Gangs of Wasseypur. We were aware that it would be certified as Adults Only while we were creating it. But we didn't anticipate it would receive such a high rating when we were creating OMG 2. It came as a surprise to me that the film was inappropriate for the 12- to 17-year-old age group. Since the film's intended audience is between the ages of 12 and 17, I was a little let down."

He further added, "I believe we should have something between U/A and A category, similar to how Censor introduced the Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill. They should also bring certain modifications to censor certification. Afsoos yehi hai ki jinko dekhni chaiye film, woh nahi dekh payenge (It's sad that the very people for whom we made the film, won't be able to watch it)."

At the promotional event, Yami Gautam also discussed her thoughts on the competition between Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 and OMG 2 at the box office. Yami asserted that she had a photo of Sunny's handpump moment from Gadar Ek Prem Katha and that she and everyone else are ardent fans of the actor. She continued, "Gadar 2 has its own following, just as we have our own audience. I'm hoping the audience sees both films. similar to the two recent Hollywood pictures that were released on the same day (Barbie and Oppenheimer). They each had their own audience and achieved great success. I thus hope the same occurs here.

After weeks of rumours that the filmmakers desired a UA certificate, OMG 2 was given an A certificate. According to reports, the CBFC reviewed OMG 2 with additional caution due to the post-release criticism that Adipurush received.
