New Delhi: Akshay Kumar's ‘OMG 2’ has opened to a decent number despite competing with Gadar 2, one of the most highly awaited Hindi films of recent times. Positive reviews and word of mouth helped the movie reach a double-digit opening day, giving its producers reason to be optimistic about a rebound over the weekend. The first day domestic net for ‘OMG 2’, starring Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam, was Rs 10.26 crore. Akshay Kumar plays the messenger of Lord Shiva in this Amit Rai-directed film.

On August 11, both 'OMG 2' starring Akshay Kumar and 'Gadar 2' starring Sunny Deol were released. Akshay Kumar's latest film did well in its opening weekend even though it was only given an A rating. On its first day, the film made Rs 10.26 crore, which was a terrific start for Akshay Kumar.

On Friday, the Hindi language audience for ‘OMG 2’ made up 37.53 per cent of the total. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the official box office collection of the movie and wrote, "#OMG2 fares much better than expected, although the numbers are severely impacted by #Gadar2 wave… Recorded better occupancy at prime multiplexes in evening and night shows, which should ensure solid growth over the weekend… Fri ₹ 10.26 cr. #India biz."

Although Akshay Kumar's film was not as successful as Gadar 2 on its opening day, it still managed to become the eighth highest opening of 2023. While not remarkable, OMG 2's opening day statistics are better than Akshay's Selfiee's Rs 2.5 crore day one collection earlier this year. 'OMG 2' is also competing against Rajinikanth's 'Jailer'.

‘OMG 2’ is the sequel to 'OMG – Oh My God!' and is now showing in cinemas.
