New Delhi: The prestigious 66th National Film Awards took place in Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan today (23rd December). Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu gave away the awards to the winners in presence of Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, and other senior dignitaries. The function witnessed film personalities being awarded for their outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema. Ayushmann Khurrana, Vicky Kaushal, Akshay Kumar & other Bollywood celebs attended the prestigious award ceremony.

As announced earlier this year, Ayushmann Khurrana & Vicky Kaushal jointly won the Best Actor Award for their performances in much-acclaimed films 'AndhaDhun' and 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' respectively. Whereas, Keerthy Suresh received her Best Actress trophy for her performance in Telugu movie 'Mahanati'. 'Padman' was declared as the 'Best Film on Social Issues' and films' lead actor received the award at the prestigious ceremony.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan too was expected to attend the ceremony as he was declared as the winner of 50th Dadasaheb Phalke Award which is Indian cinema's biggest honour. However, the veteran actor yesterday (22nd December) took to his social media account and shared that he'll not be able to attend the ceremony as he's suffering from fever and needs rest.

Earlier, it was was announced that Gujarati film 'Hellaro' won Best Feature Film Award. 'Badhaai Ho' bagged award for Best Popular Film and veteran actress Surekha Sikri was declared as the winner of Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the same film. Aditya Dhar won Best Director Award for 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' whereas Priyanka Chopra produced Marathi movie 'Paani' won the award for Best Film on Environment Conservation/ Preservation.
