New Delhi: Thalapathy Vijay has returned to theatres with his latest action thriller, 'Leo: Bloody Sweet'. One of the most talked-about and anticipated Tamil films of 2023, ‘Leo’ has broken several movie office records. In addition to Thalapathy Vijay, the film also features Sanjay Dutt and Trisha Krishnan, two of the biggest stars in India at the moment.

On its first day, the Lokesh Kanagaraj film earned Rs 140 crore global gross and Rs 64.8 crore nett in India, but according to industry tracker Sacnilk, it only earned Rs 36 crore on its second day. The decline in revenue is almost 44%. The film has made Rs 100.80 crore so far. As of Friday, ‘Leo’ saw 66.85% Tamil occupancy. The film's performance has been lacklustre outside of the South.

Weak audience response can be the reason for this decline. It remains to be seen whether the film can gain steam this coming weekend. Trade analysts believe that Monday and Tuesday would be particularly good for ‘Leo’ at the box office because of the Dussehra holidays.

‘Leo’ had its fair share of problems leading up to its debut. Vijay’s film has been mired in controversy ever since its poster was met with protests, leading to the cancellation of the audio launch event. The film had a successful opening day despite the cancellation of an early morning showing in Tamil Nadu.

Despite initial reports that the film had a better opening day than Rajinikanth's 'Jailer', it would be interesting to see whether 'Leo' can break Rajinikanth's record or not. The Rajinikanth movie was the biggest grossing Tamil film of the year, with a global total of Rs 604.25 crore.

After their successful collaboration on the 2021 film 'Master', Vijay and director Lokesh Kanagaraj reunited for this film. ‘Leo’ was released on October 19 in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
