New Delhi: The release date of Shahid Kapoor's much-awaited upcoming movie 'Jersey' has been postponed amid the rising cases of Omicron cases in the country. The sports drama which was earlier slated to hit the screens on December 31, 2021, has now been pushed. The makers will announce the new release date of the movie later. 


Written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, Shahid Kapoor's 'Jersey' is the remake of the 2019 Telugu film of the same title which featured Nani and Shraddha Srinath playing the lead roles. The film was originally slated to release in theatres on August 28, 2020, but got delayed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. 


Earlier this year, Shahid Kapoor announced the new release date of 'Jersey' on his social media and wrote, "JERSEY releasing in theatres 31st December 2021."

The makers also released the trailer of the movie last month and it received a lot of appreciation from the audience. A glimpse of Shahid and Mrunal's performance in the movie was well received and fans were eagerly waiting for the movie to hit the screens. 


After delivering impactful performances in movies like 'Udta Punjab', 'Kabir Singh' and others, fans of the 'Jab We Met' actor were eagerly waiting to witness their favourite hero in a new avatar. The movie also marks Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur's first on-screen performance together. 


The trailer of 'Jersey' shared a glimpse into the life of a former cricketer whose desire to fulfill his son's wish of having a jersey makes him cross boundaries. Meanwhile, other than Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur, the movie also features Pankaj Kapur in a pivotal role.
