Late Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan’s son Babil Khan shared a post on his Instagram story after he received a message from his father’s ‘The Namesake’ co-star Kal Penn. Babil posted a screenshot of Kal’s message on social media and revealed that he was left speechless after reading the heartfelt message.


What Kal Penn Wrote In His Message?


The ‘House’ actor thanked Babil for connecting with him and said that ‘The Namesake’ was a project that brought him the ‘greatest artistic happiness’. Kal added that he thought of Babil, his mother Sutapa Sikdar and brother Ayaan last year but wasn't 'sure how to get in touch to ‘share his love and gratitude’.


Kal asked Babil to send his warm greeting to Sutapa and Ayaan. He also told him to meet the actor when he visits New York once the COVID-19 pandemic ends.

“Babil, I’m so moved that you reached out and it means so much to me to hear that story. Thank you. Who Is Kal Penn?


Kalpen Suresh Modi, who is known professionally as Kal Penn, has acted in shows like ‘How I Met Your Mother’, ‘Clarice’ and ‘Designated Survivor’. He was born to Gujarati Indian immigrant parents in New Jersey. He has also worked in films like ‘Bachelor Party Vegas’ and ‘The Girl In The Photographs’.


Irrfan Khan and Kal Penn worked together in Mira Nair’s ‘The Namesake’, which released in 2006/2007. Kal played Irrfan’s on-screen son Nikhil ‘Gogol’ Ganguli in the critically acclaimed film. Tabu was seen as Irrfan’s on-screen wife in ‘The Namesake’.

Kal Penn had penned an emotional note on Instagram to mourn Irrfan Khan’s death. He shared stills from ‘The Namesake’ and said Irrfan’s ‘art and humanity will be badly missed.’ The actor also sent love to the beareved family.



Irrfan Khan passed away on April 29, 2020 due to colon infection. The 'Piku' star was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumor in 2018. Several leading Bollywood celebs stars including Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan expressed their grief over his death on social media.

Irrfan’s second last film ‘Angrezi Medium’ released in March 2020. The comedy drama co-starring Kareena Kapoor and Radhika Madan couldn’t enjoy a long run at the box office as the cinema halls were shut due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
