New Delhi: The second wave of COVID-19 is getting worse as days are passing by. Weekend lockdown has been imposed in many parts of the country due to the rising number of corona cases. This has led many filmmakers to postpone the release date of their upcoming movies. The list of films includes ‘Thalaivi’, ‘Sooryavanshi’ among others.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ was also slated for a release n July 30, 2021. But given the situation of the pandemic, it seems difficult to release on theatres on the said date.
According to a report of an entertainment portal, the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ director has been offered a hefty amount to release ‘Gangubai Kathaiwadi’ on a digital platform. Reportedly, the amount could feed a whole village for two years.
According to a report of SpotboyE, “It’s the way the Covid situation is going. Very soon there may not be any other option left for Bhansali. He is now seriously thinking of going digital with Gangubai Kathiawadi, the 30 July theatrical release now seeming next to impossible.”
The trailer of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ was released earlier this year on January 24. Alia Bhatt will portray the character of the protagonist Gangubai. Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and Seema Pahwa will be seen in pivotal roles. Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi will be seen in extended cameos in ‘Gnagubai Kathiawadi’. This movie is loosely based on the book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ written by S. Hussain Zaidi.
