New Delhi: The official trailer of 'Gandhi Godse' is finally out. It shows the story of the riots during India-Pakistan partition of British India in 1947. The trailer opens with the violence between the both sides and Gandhian values and ideology battling the rage of communal riots which gives birth to opposing ideology represented by the likes of Nathuram Godse.


'Gandhi Godse' is a fictional recreation of history where it imagines Gandhi surviving after Nathuram Godse's attack and the subsequent battle of ideologies between the two. Leading members of the Indian National Congress: Jahawar Lal Nehru are also represented in the film as is the figure of Dr. DR Ambedkar and him championing the cause of an equal society .


In the upcoming film, Chinmay Mandlekar essays the role of Godse while Deepak Antani plays Gandhi.

The trailer imagines what India would have been like had Gandhi survived Godse's attack. The film is a tussle between two varying ideologies of violence and Satyagraha. The trailer closes with Godse dreaming about the establishment of Hindu rashtra and the 'bhagwa' flag as its national symbol. 'Gandhi Godse' draws upon modern and contemporary debates around national identity and the idea of Hindu nation which have persisted so long after the partition.


Soon after the trailer was released, netizens on Twitter began comparing it with 'Pathaan'. Some called it better than the SRK film while others shared their excitement to watch the film this Republic Day on January 26, 2023.


Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, 'Gandu Godse' will be released on January 26, 2023.
