New Delhi: 'Gadar 2' director Anil Sharma claims that the industry has resorted to the regrettable practise of falsifying box office receipts of its films to demonstrate that their movie is a "hit," but it is a destructive tendency that merely sows public scepticism. Sharma claims that the box office results for his most successful film, 'Gadar 2', which has shattered numerous records, are "real" and unhyped.
'Gadar 2', starring Sunny Deol, opened on August 11 and, in just 17 days, has grossed an astounding Rs 456.95 crore, making it the fastest movie to reach the Rs 450 crore mark. Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, which earned Rs 450 crore in 18 days, previously held the benchmark record.
Anil Sharma stated that a well-made, wholesome Hindi film will always draw in the public, during a recent interview, when asked about how several Bollywood event films failed to draw the audience to theatres. But it is unfortunate that sometimes creators choose a wrong path in their haste to earn a hit tag.
Talking about it, the 'Gadar' director said, "What’s happening these days is, and it is a very sad thing, that sometimes a film, doesn’t become a hit, so the makers give fake numbers, buy tickets themselves and do a lot of other things to make their brand. But the audience feels cheated. That is damaging, because when another film comes, the audience doesn’t turn up. They feel, ‘Ye sab jhoote log hai, fake log hai.'”
“In Gadar 2, we put out nett collections, everything is real. There is also real public watching the film. No one is questioning the collections of this film or calling it unreal. Logo ko sab dikh raha hai, people are watching the film, everyone is only talk about Gadar 2. Whenever films like these are made, people will come to watch.
He further added, “There was a time Sholay, Deewaar, Amar Akbar Anthony, Dharamveer, Mera Gaon Mera Desh and such films were made, which people would thoroughly enjoy in cinema halls, had that experience. When Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayegne released, people enjoyed a lot in cinema halls, same for Hum Aapke Hai Koun, Bajrangi Bhaijaan… So whenever the public enjoys, theatres will run houseful. You have to create moments where they can enjoy."
Prior to the September 7 release of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan', 'Gadar 2' is now aiming to surpass the Rs 500 crore milestone at the domestic box office. Then, 'Gadar 2' would aim to surpass Pathaan's record of Rs 524 crore Hindi nett, which still stands as the highest-grossing Bollywood film in India.
