New Delhi: Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone’s much-anticipated film ‘Fighter’ released on January 25, a day ahead of the Republic Day holiday for a long weekend box office advantage. The film, also starring Anil Kapoor, has collected Rs 24.60 crore on its first day.

The aerial action film is directed by Siddharth Anand, whose last film ‘Pathaan’ was also released on January 25 last year. 'Fighter' has not replicated Pathaan’s opening day numbers but had a strong start.

According to Sacnilk.com, Fighter had an overall 21.17 percent Hindi occupancy on Thursday. Chennai recorded the highest occupancy with 59 percent, followed by Hyderabad, Mumbai, NCR, and Jaipur.

'Fighter' has already sold tickets worth Rs 13.2 crore for the Republic Day and is expected to perform better with the three-day weekend.

Fighter is Hrithik’s fourth-highest opening with War at the top position at Rs 53.35 crore followed by Bang Bang! at Rs 27 crore, Krrish 3 at Rs 25 crore.

The film, also starring Karan Singh Grover, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Rishabh Sawhney, and Akshay Oberoi, has opened to mixed reviews.

ABP Live’s review of the Hrithik Roshan starrer reads, “The movie picks up momentum and becomes more engaging in the second half after a slowly moving first half. It only really picks up and heads toward a riveting climax in the last twenty minutes or so. The war drama, however, is an aesthetic marvel and a spectacular extravaganza courtesy of its phenomenal air combat scenes and exceptional cinematography.”

“'Fighter' offers a glossy picture of patriotism with heaps of glitz and high-octane action sequences. Anand and Ramon Chibb co-wrote the script, which is a great blend of wit, patriotism, action, and a touch of romance. On top of that, the flawless tracks 'Jai Hind' and 'Vande Mataram' add character and give you chills. The movie is both highly entertaining and full of patriotism.”
