'The Legend of Maula Jatt', starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, is all set to become the first Pakistani film in over a decade to hit Indian theatres. Directed by Bilal Lashari, the film is all set to release in Punjab, India, on October 2, marking a significant moment for cross-border cinema.

The news was shared by Lashari, and the film's official Instagram account. Lashari took to social media to express his excitement, posting a promotional poster with the caption: "Releasing in India, Punjab on Wednesday 2nd Oct! Two years in, and still house full on weekends in Pakistan! Now, I can’t wait for our Punjabi audience in India to experience the magic of this labor of love!"
According to the official poster, 'The Legend of Maula Jatt' will be distributed in India by Zee Studios, in partnership with Zindagi, the platform that also brought Fawad Khan back to Indian screens with the show Barzakh.

This release is particularly notable as it will be the first Pakistani film to be shown in India since 2011's 'Bol', which starred Humaima Malick and Atif Aslam. Released in Pakistan in 2022, 'The Legend of Maula Jatt' quickly became a blockbuster, grossing Rs 400 crore worldwide, making it Pakistan's highest-grossing film to date. The movie is a modern remake of the iconic 1979 film Maula Jatt, which has long held cult status in Pakistani cinema.
An announcement from the film's official Instagram page read, "Two years on, 'The Legend of Maula Jatt' is still unstoppable! Witness the epic saga on the big screen in India from 2nd October 2024. Cinema listing to be shared soon."
In addition to Fawad and Mahira, who previously captivated audiences with their on-screen chemistry in 'Humsafar', the film also features Hamza Abbasi in a prominent role. With the duo's massive fan base in both Pakistan and India, anticipation is high for the film's release.
"India is a huge market for films, and we’re confident Maula Jatt will be well-received by Indian audiences," said a representative from the film’s team.
This release comes after years of tension between India and Pakistan that affected the entertainment industry. The aftermath of terror attacks led to a halt in the exchange of films between the two nations. Despite the political tensions, Fawad and Mahira remain beloved figures in India, with Mahira having starred opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Raees.
Originally, 'The Legend of Maula Jatt' was scheduled for an Indian release in December 2022, but the release was delayed.
