Hyderabad: The Enforcement Directorate has summoned leading Tollywood celebs including actors and director in connection with a four-year-old drugs case. The ED has issued summons to Telugu stars like Rakul Preet Singh, Rana Daggubati, Ravi Teja, Puri Jagannadh, asking them to appear before the concerned authorities for questioning.
Tollywood Celebs Who Have Been Summoned For Questioning
Rakul Preet has been asked to appear for interrogation on September 6 while 'Baahubali' star Rana Daggubati will have to be present before the officials on September 8. The ED has summoned Ravi Teja on September 9.
Puri Jagannadh, Charmee Kaur, Mumaith Khan, Navdeep and Nandu have also been summoned by the federal agency. Puri Jagannadh, who has directed films like 'Pokiri' and 'Golimaar', will appear before the ED officials on August 31. Mumaith Khan has been summoned for investigation on September 15.
Tollywood Drugs Case
The Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department had registered 12 cases and filed 11 chargesheets against the drug traffickers in 2017 after busting a drug racket. The ED started the money laundering probe after the excise department registered the cases. It busted a major drug racket, which supplied drugs like LSD and MDMA to students, celebrities and people in corporate sector.
The fans were shocked when the names of leading celebs came to the fore during the probe into the drugs case. Calvin Mascarenhas, who was considered to be the alleged kingpin in the drug racket, had phone numbers of several celebs saved in his contacts, according to ED sources.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) had questioned the celebs in July 2017 as part of the investigation in the case. The team had arrested a South African for allegedly suppyling cocaine in August 2017, according to a report in IANS.
Tollywood Celebs To Be Considered As Witnesses In Drugs Case
According to a report in a leading daily, the excise officials have been called as witnesses in the drugs case. "We have called excise officials as witnesses. Likewise, till we get evidence Tollywood celebrities will be considered as witnesses. Their names have figured in the investigation," an ED official told Times Of India.
