New Delhi: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's first film with director Rajkumar Hirani, 'Dunki', made an estimated Rs 26 cr on Saturday, marking a much-needed increase on its third day of release, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
It was vital for the social comedy drama that its Saturday collections see a thirty percent increase over its Friday, or second day, results. For the movie to keep a steady pace at the box office, it needed to at least match its opening day total of Rs 29 cr, if not surpass it.
The movie will reach the Rs 100 cr club India nett on Sunday after earning Rs 75.32 cr in three days. Dunki is probably going to be close to the Rs 150 cr threshold globally. However, trade estimates indicate that the picture is no longer expected to gross significant sums of Rs 350 cr or more at the box office, given that daily receipts are still below Rs 30 cr. Additionally, the figures are much lower than those from SRK's two prior 2023 blockbusters, Jawan and Pathaan. In the end, both of those films brought in more than Rs 1000 crore globally.
A good indication of its total box office collection will come from the Sunday and Monday (Christmas) collections as well as the Tuesday data, which are the next important hold. Only available in Hindi, Dunki has amassed a respectable total despite competing with Prabhas' action film Salaar and receiving mixed reviews. In context, Salaar earned Rs 95 crore on day one and Rs 55 crore on day two throughout India.
Dunki's chances of surpassing Hirani's last movie, Sanju, seem remote at this point. In its first three days, Sanju made over Rs 120 cr, and at the end, it had made an incredible Rs 342 cr. At this point, Dunki will most likely go for the Rs 300 cr club record. Along with Taapsee Pannu and Boman Irani, Vicky Kaushal makes a cameo appearance in the movie.
