Karan Johar Suffers Loss Worth Rs 20 Crore After Sacking Kartik Aaryan From 'Dostana 2'

Karan Johar's Dharma Productions issued a statement to confirm Dostana 2's re-casting. Kartik Aaryan would no longer feature in the film co-starring Janhvi Kapoor.

Actors getting replaced in films is not a new phenomenon in the industry. While makers have replaced actors from their projects, we haven’t seen any filmmaker dropping a star in the middle of a film due to ‘unprofessional behaviour’. Bollywood heartthrob Kartik Aaryan’s ouster from ‘Dostana 2’ has set several tongues wagging.  

ABP News has received exclusive information from a reliable source at Dharma Productions about Aaryan’s exit from ‘Dostana 2’.  

Kartik has been accused of ‘unprofessional behaviour’ and ‘interfering in the script’ even when the film went on floors several months ago. According to the source, Karan Johar and Dharma Productions have to incur a loss worth several crores after removing Aaryan from ‘Dostana 2’. 

When we asked the source about the amount, he said, “the loss is close to Rs 20 crore.” Considering the massive scale and budget of Johar’s films, the amount is not that high; however, the loss suffered due to Kartik’s exit will affect the budget of ‘Dostana 2’.  

"Karan decided to not tolerate Kartik Aaryan's 'tantrums' and instead drop him from the film even if he had to bear losses worth crores. He thought that it would be better to remove Kartik from film and not work with him in future,” the source further said. 

The source added that Kartik created problems while allocating his dates for the upcoming shoot of 'Dostana 2'. Dharma Productions conducted several rounds of meeting with KWAN, the agency that manages Kartik, for his dates. Despite the efforts, the production house was not getting a clear answer regarding Kartik’s choice of dates, which made Karan Johar angry.  

It is being said that Karthik Aryan was unhappy with the script of the second half of 'Dostana 2' and he caused troubles for the makers. The source said, "Dharma Productions did not make any change in the script which Kartik Aryan heard before signing the film. Karthik's interference with the script couldn’t be tolerated and Karan Johar had to take such a big decision." 

Kartik, Janhvi Kapoor and Lakshya Lalwani shot for ‘Dostana 2’ for 20 days in 2019. Lalwani, who is a known TV star, will make his Bollywood debut with the upcoming film.  

Dharma Productions released an official statement to confirm Dostana 2’s re-casting due to ‘professional circumstances’. Kartik is yet to react to the big allegations levelled against him by the makers of the film.
