New Delhi: Farhan Akhtar knows how to pique interest and this time is no exception. Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar have recently sent a ripple of excitement through the industry and amongst fans with a cryptic announcement marked by a tantalizing '3'. The symbolic '3' indicates a new addition to a much-loved franchise ‘Don’. Farhan Akhtar announced the upcoming film in an Instagram post today.


The series is said to end with 'Don: The Final Chapter,' the third chapter. The series began when Excel Entertainment, headed by Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan, purchased the rights to the 1978 film of the same name, which starred Amitabh Bachchan.


In Farhan's latest post, the slogan, "A New Era Begins," echoed throughout the "Don"-themed commercial.






Fans and celebs rushed to Farhan’s post to show their excitement.


Actress Dia Mirza wrote, "Can’t wait" while Guneet Monga wrote, "Waiting" with heart eye emojis. Farhan's sister and filmmaker Zoya Akhtar wrote, "Boom"




Farhan Akhtar also tweeted an official statement by Excel Entertainment in which he confirmed that Shah Rukh Khan will not be part of the franchise. Another actor is set to replace SRK in the third installment of the series.

 




Earlier, Ritesh Sidhwani shared some details about ‘Don 3’. PTI quoted him saying, "Till my partner (Farhan Akhtar) finishes writing it, we won’t do anything. Right now, he is in the phase of completing the script. Even all of us are eagerly waiting to see Don.”


Some rumours have suggested that the upcoming film's lead role of Don would be played by Ranveer Singh rather than Shah Rukh Khan. The cast and crew of the film, however, have not verified the reports.


Pinkvilla claims that within two to three days, the formal teaser of 'Don 3' teaser will release, starring Ranveer Singh.
