New Delhi: Popular Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh met the farmers at the Singhu border in the National Capital Region on Saturday (December 5) and extended support to them in their protest against the farm laws. The actor, who made his Bollywood debut with 'Udta Punjab', requested the Central government to accept the demand of farmers. He also urged the media fraternity to show how the farmers are protesting against the farm bills in a peaceful manner.

The 'Phillauri' actor said that farmers' issues should not be diverted by anyone. He addressed the farmers and said that they have created history with their protest and this act would be narrated to the future generation.

"Hats off to all of you farmers who have created a new history. This history would be narrated to future generations. Farmers’ issues shouldn’t be diverted by anyone," the singer was quoted as saying by ANI.



Punjabi singer Singga took his Instagram story to inform his fans that Diljit Dosanjh donated Rs 1 crore for the farmers so that they can use it to buy woollen clothes and blankets. According to a report in Times Of India, the money will be used to buy clothes for the elderly farmers, who are protesting against the farm laws amid the harsh winters.

Singga shared a post on Insta story and thanked Diljit for the gesture. He wrote, "Big thanks @diljitdosanjh."

Diljit Dosanjh trended on Twitter after the singer slammed Kangana Ranaut for misidentifying an elderly woman, who participated in the protests, as Bilkis Bano of Shaheen Bagh. The 'Panga' actress responded to Dosanjh's tweet and called him Karan Johar's 'pet'. Their Twitter war grabbed several eyeballs as the two celebs exchanged a series of tweets on the micro-blogging site.

According to a report in News 18, Diljit gained around 4 lakh followers on Twitter after his war of words with Kangana Ranaut. The singer has over 4.3 million followers on Twitter. On the professional front, Dosanjh's film 'Suraj Par Mangla Bhari' recently hit the silver screens.

Punjabi singer Gippy Grewal expressed his displeasure over the lack of support from the Bollywood celebs in the matter. He tweeted, "Dear Bollywood, Every now and then your movies have been shot in Punjab & everytime you have been welcomed with open heart. But today when Punjab needs u the most, u didn't show up and speak a word. #DISAPPOINTED." Several Punjabi celebs including Himanshi Khurana, Ammy Virk and Sara Gurpal have come out in support of the farmers on social media.



Talking about Kangana, Ranaut, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee served a notice to the 'Manikarnika' actress for her 'derogatory' tweet on the activists and farmers, who are involved in the protests against the farm laws.

A petition was also filed in Bombay High Court against the 'Queen' star, seeking suspension of her Twitter account.
