Dilip Kumar Buried At Mumbai's Santacruz Cemetery, Actor's Mortal Remains Draped In Tricolour

Dilip Kumar, the ‘Tragedy King’ of Bollywood has been cremated at Santacruz cemetery. The actor was draped in the tricolour for his funeral and was cremated with full state honours.

Mumbai: Veteran actor Dilip Kumar passed away earlier today (July 7, 2021) due to age-related health issues. The ‘Devdas’ actor was admitted to the hospital on June 30 after he complained of a breathing problem and days after, the news of his passing away broke out.

Dilip Kumar, the ‘Tragedy King’ of Bollywood has been cremated at Santa Cruz cemetery. The actor was draped in the tricolour for his funeral and was cremated with full state honours.

Many celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor, Dharmendra, Ranbir Kapoor, and others visited the late actor’s residence in Mumbai to pay their last respects. The mortal remains of Dilip Kumar were brought back to his house in Mumbai before commencing his last rites.

Amitabh Bachchan tweeted on Dilip Kumar’s demise, “An institution has gone .. whenever the history of Indian Cinema will be written , it shall always be 'before Dilip Kumar, and after Dilip Kumar' .. My duas for peace of his soul and the strength to the family to bear this loss ..Deeply saddened”.

Salman Khan also tweeted, “Best actor indian cinema has ever seen and will ever see … #RIP Dilip Saab”.

Akshay Kumar tweeted, “To the world many others may be heroes. To us actors, he was The Hero. #DilipKumar Sir has taken an entire era of Indian cinema away with him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Om Shanti”.

Ajay Devgn also expressed his grief on Dilip Kumar’s death and wrote, “Shared many moments with the legend...some very personal, some on stage. Yet, nothing really prepared me for his passing away. An institution, a timeless actor. Heartbroken. Deepest condolences to Sairaji #DilipKumar”.

Shahid Kapoor tweeted, “We are all nothing but versions of you Dilip Saab. Every actor has studied you in awe. Wondering how you did it all. You were as close to PERFECT as it can get. As you return to your spiritual home. The prayers of millions are with you.”

Anushka Sharm also shared a heartfelt note for Dilip Kumar and wrote, “Sir, you have touched innumerable lives through your life and work. Have set the foundation for so many actors and contributed to the industry in innumerable ways. The outcome of your life will show in every great film that will be made and performances that will be lived for years to come. May you find infinite peace and love as you bid this world goodbye”.

Madhuri Dixit wrote, “Every now & then some individuals come along who single-handedly alter the present & write history... One such legend was Dilip saab for the world of cinema. I was fortunate to have spent some time with him both on & off screen and I'll cherish those memories forever. Praying for the peace of his departed soul & my heartfelt condolence to the family. RIP”.

Not only celebrities, many politicians including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and others also paid tribute to the great actor and offered condolences to his family. The PM of Pakistan also paid his tribute to the late actor.

Dilip Kumar’s death is a great loss to the world of Indian cinema. He has worked in over 65 films in his career spanning over five decades. Also referred to as the ‘First Khan’ of Bollywood, Mohammed Yusuf Khan or popularly known as Dilip Kumar, started his career with the 1944 film ‘Jwar Bhata’. He delivered some of the best works in the Hindi film industry with ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Gunga Jamuna’, ‘Nadiya Ke Par’ to name a few.
