Dhai Aakhar Trailer

The film’s trailer and music were launched at an event in Mumbai attended by Mrinal Kulkarni, producer and presenter J.P. Agarwal, director Praveen Arora, composer Anupam Roy, and the acclaimed singer Kavita Seth. The trailer leaves a lasting impact, portraying the story of a woman struggling to find her identity amidst domestic violence.

A powerful line in the film’s dialogue resonates deeply: “Where there is bondage, there is no love; where there is love, there is no bondage.” This theme is beautifully woven throughout the film. Two soulful songs were showcased, including Dhoop Ki Aur, penned by Irshad Kamil, and the timeless piece Ae Ri Sakhi by Amir Khusro, which Kavita Seth has rendered with a haunting beauty.

About the film

Director Praveen Arora shared his inspiration, explaining his deep interest in literature. Upon reading Teerthatan Ke Baad, a story by celebrated writer Amreek Singh Deep in the Hindi literary magazine Hans, Arora felt compelled to adapt it for cinema. Renowned writer Asghar Wajahat penned the screenplay and dialogues based on the novel developed from this story.

Set in the 1980s, the film highlights the societal condition of women. Despite advancements in education and awareness, certain perspectives towards women remain unchanged. The film presents a nuanced view of mental violence, which, as Arora emphasized, can be more damaging than physical violence. Dhai Aakhar captures this emotional journey, and he hopes audiences will experience this cinematic and literary magic on the big screen.

Arora further praised Mrinal Kulkarni’s dedication, recalling the challenging 46°C temperatures during shooting. He noted her commitment as she embodied her character, rather than merely acting. The film was shot extensively in the mountainous regions of Haridwar and Rishikesh to match the protagonist’s setting as a writer who resides in the hills. The movie is set for a pan-India release.

Presenter J.P. Agarwal added that this film wasn’t created merely for profit. Amidst the trend of crime and action films, Dhai Aakhar aims to present refined cinema. We are confident it will resonate with audiences and succeed on both creative and commercial fronts.

During the music launch, Kavita Seth performed Ae Ri Sakhi live, captivating the audience. Dhai Aakhar, selected for the prestigious Panorama section at IFFI Goa, has received an enthusiastic response from national and international viewers.

Mrinal Kulkarni expressed her delight in being part of the project, sharing that her literary background made this role particularly meaningful. She appreciated Arora’s efforts to bring forth a story that sensitively explores women’s emotions and experiences.

Produced under the banners of Kabir Communications, Aakriti Productions, and S.K. Jain Jamai, Dhai Aakhar is set to release in cinemas on November 22.
