Duration: 2 hours
Rating: 2.5 stars
Bollywood just ruined a beautiful regional film Sairat in the name of adaptation! Yes, this was exactly my first reaction aftet watching Dhadak which marks the debut of late legandary Sridevi's daughter Janhvi Kapoor. I really feel sorry for the starkid as she definitely deserved a better launching that this one! From last one month the makers and lead actors Ishaan and Janhvi left no stones unturned in promoting the movie, the film was much hyped and talked about before its release but all in vain as there's nothing in the movie that you will remember once you leave the theatre.
Story: Set in the backdrop of Rajasthan, Parthavi(Janhvi Kapoor) an upper class girl falls in love with Madho(Ishaan Khatter) a lower caste boy.The two go to same college in Udaipur where love blossoms but before they could take a step forward Parthavi's politician father (Ashutosh Rana) and brother get to know about their daughter's affair with a lower caste boy and plans to make Madho's life a hell by getting him arrested using his power and torturing in jail. But Parthvi comes and rescues her lover and the two elopes to Mumbai. But how far will they go for their love is the story of Dhadak.
Review: Based on honour killing the movie looka like a poor copy of Marathi blockbuster movie Sairaat. From the very first scene till the climax you just don't feel the connect and the movie looks vague and falls flat! The makers could have made a beautiful film but despite of copying many scenes the film turns out to be a disaster. Many at times you find it hard to believe if this is the remake of such a masterpiece. You just don't get connected with the characters,Ishaan plays the role of a lower caste boy but he looks(in terms of costume and living) exactly like Janhvi who plays an upper caste. There's a scene where Ishaan's father tells him that they are the suppressed ones in society and he shouldn't fall for an upper class girl only then you realise that the hero and heroine are divided by caste. Right from the poor screenplay to direction and weak performances the movie lacks in every aspect and in one word its disappointing!
‘Dhadak’ celebs review: Varun, Madhuri, Sonam & others praise Janhvi-Ishaan’s film!
Acting: The movie stars newcomers Janhvi and Ishaan Khatter, in-fact it marks the debut of Sridevi's daughter and there was a lot of expectations from the star kid but unfortunately Janhvi fails to impress and there's not a single scene where she reminds of her late mom in terms of acting. The 19-year-old was looking promising in the trailers but she totally disappoints you in the film. She would have chosen a better film as her debut . Talking about her looks, Janhvi looks refreshing and beautiful she somehow impresses us in the emotional scenes and we hope she carefully choses her second film! Ishaan Khatter has done his part well, however he too couldn't make things look interesting onscreen despite of his terrific screen presence. One film old Ishaan has already proved his acting prowess in his debut film 'Beyond the Clouds' and the weak narration of Dhadak makes him look weak this time. Other actors in supporting roles too doesn't impress much, except Ashutosh Rana as Janhvi's strict dad you won't remember any other character in the film.
Direction: The movie helmed by Shashank Khaitan is his worst flick till date, he is known as the hit machine of Bollywood with 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya' and 'Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya' he has also proved that he aces the genre of romance. But he totally fails in Dhadak, with weak narration to screenplay the direction is just poor and is one of the reason why the movie disappoints!
Watch or Not?
Go for it only if you are absolutely free this weekend else watch 'Sairaat' again as there are too many yawning moments in Dhadak that is going to bore you big time and you will come out of theatre scratching your heads!
