CHENNAI: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Chennai police on Sunday booked model turned actress Meera Mithun for allegedly using casteist slur against scheduled caste people. In an interview with a YouTube channel, the actress was seen throwing derogatory remarks against them. The video which has gone viral on social media platforms has caused outrage and landed her in trouble. 


In the video released on August 7, 202, the actress has said, “generally, I will not speak about scheduled caste people. But they are indulging in criminal and illegal activities and that’s why they are facing all kinds of problems. Nobody will speak ill of scheduled caste people unnecessarily.” 


She went on to say, “even in the industries, scheduled caste directors and others are doing all kinds of illegal activities. It is time to chuck the scheduled caste people and directors from the industry.”



In the video, the actress was also seen saying about a director for allegedly using her picture for a movie’s first look and uttered a derogatory word while cursing him. The video which has gone viral on social media has received outrage from several quarters. Based on a complaint from Vanni Arasu, the deputy general secretary of Viduthalai Siruthaigal Katchi, the police have filed a case under sections 153 (malignantly or wantonly giving provocations with n intent to cause riot), 153 A(1)(a), 505 (1)(b) (within the intent to cause or likely to cause fear among the public) of Indian Penal Code and several sections of SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
