Dhaka: Dhallywood actress Pori Moni, who made headlines after accusing a businessman of rape and murder, was arrested by Bangladesh’s anti-terrorism and anti-crime force Rapid Action Battalion on Wednesday. RAB detained the popular film actress after raiding her house in Dhaka, a report in a news agency said.

The 28-year-old actress, who enjoys a significant fan following on social media, had sought police protection, claiming that unknown people attacked her house.

"We have specific charges against her (Moni) but we will explain our action later," RAB spokesman Major Roisul Azam Moni was quoted as saying by PTI.

According to a report in Dhaka Tribune, the RAB will start several cases against Moni, who has been detained following a raid, on the basis of ‘specific allegations’. The police united also detained Bangladeshi filmmaker Nazrul Ilam Raz after raiding his house in the same neighborhood, the report added.

RAB Additional Director General (Operations) Colonel KM Azad, while talking to the website, said that the team is preparing to start multiple case against Moni and Raz under the Narcotics Control Act.

The RAB team carried out a raid at Pori Moni’s residence, days after two Bangladeshi models were arrested on blackmail charges. Faria Mahbub Piasha and Mou Akter were arrested after the officials recovered contraband drugs and liquor during a raid at their houses.

The officials conducted the raid at Moni’s residence along with the police in the presence of TV cameras. Liquor and narcotics substance were recovered from Moni’s house. The live TV footage, which ran across different channels, showed that her entire floor had shelves, which were filled with liquor and drugs.

Pori Moni set several tongues wagging when she levelled serious allegations against a Dhaka-based businessman. The actress accused him of rape and murder, seeking PM Sheikh Hasina’s intervention to deliver justice.

The police had arrested businessman Nasiruddin Mahmood and two others after Moni made the accusations. They were granted bail after staying behind the bars for 18 days.

A club had also filed a case against Moni in July 2021, accusing her of vandalising the bar.
