New Delhi: Aishwarya had reported the theft of her ornaments, including diamonds and gold jewellery, from her apartment to the Teynampet police a few days earlier. She had listed three of her housekeeping staff as potential suspects.

The domestic help and driver of Aishwarya Rajnikanth, the daughter of superstar Rajinikanth, were detained by Teynampet police in Chennai for allegedly stealing her jewellery. Eswari, a domestic helper, and Venkatesan, a driver, allegedly crashed and took jewellery from a locker at the director's home.

Upon questioning, authorities discovered that Eswari had taken 4 kg of silver, 30 kilograms of diamond jewellery, and 100 sovereigns of gold. The two were taken into custody on Tuesday, according to a statement released by the Greater Chennai Police on Wednesday. Since Eswari had been with Aishwarya for 18 years, she was aware of the location of the locker key. She had removed the jewellery, sold it, and used the proceeds to purchase a home. The jewellery had allegedly been stolen over time, according to the police.

Aishwarya Rajinikanth, who is currently shooting her upcoming Tamil film 'Laal Salaam', said in her lawsuit that the assets are valued at Rs 3.60 lakh.

Aishwarya further said in her complaint that she wore the jewellery at her sister Soundarya's 2019 wedding. The jewellery has been in Aishwarya's hands since the wedding and has being kept in a locker.

The locker, however, has apparently been transferred several times over the past three years, first to her ex-husband Dhanush's apartment in 2021 and then to her apartment the following year. The keys to the locker stayed at her apartment till it was finally moved to her father Rajinikanth's home last year.

On the work front, after a seven-year hiatus, Aishwarya is making a comeback with 'Laal Salaam'. Vishnu Vishal and Vikrant play the lead roles in the movie, which is rumoured to be about communism and cricket. 'Laal Salaam', which began filming earlier this month, will have a lengthy cameo of Rajinikanth.
