New Delhi: A day ahead of the trailer release of 'Ponniyin Selvan 2', Aishwarya Rai Bachchan dropped a new poster of the second part of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus. The sequel to the super hit 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' will soon be released. Meanwhile, makers have been teasing fans and audiences with clips and songs of 'PS-2' before its trailer release on March 29. In the new poster which Aishwarya shared, we see Aishwarya and Vikram in the backdrop, perhaps suggesting that the two's story will be the highlight of the second part.


Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who plays a double role in 'PS-1/2' left audiences wanting for more as her double role was revealed at the end of 'PS-1'. In the poster we see Aishwarya lighting some diyas while Vikram looks intensely at something in the distance. 


Aishwarya captioned the post, "✨Fire in their eyes. Love in their hearts. Blood on their swords. The Cholas will be back to fight for the throne! ✨."Fans could not contain their excitement after Aishwarya's post. A user wrote, "Waiting For Your Revenge Queen," while another said, “Can’t wait to see the beautiful Queen Nandhini."


 






In the film, Aishwarya portrays the role of Queen Nandini, the princess of Pazhuvoor, who is on a mission to seek vengeance, while also portraying the role of  Mandakini Devi.


Meanwhile, the trailer launch of 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' will be happening in Chennai which will reportedly be followed by the music launch as well. The evening will see the cast members attend the event while Kamal Haasan is reported to be the special guest at the launch event.


‘Ponniyin Selvan 1 & 2’ are based on the successful book of the same name  by Kalki Krishnamurthy which was published in 1955. There have been many attempts to adapt the novel into celluloid but Mani Ratnam’s has been the most successful and fruitful one.


Most of the ensemble cast including  Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, among others are likely to return to ‘PS-2’.


Touted to be Mani Ratnam’s dream project, ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ will be released on April 28, 2023.
