New Delhi: Actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is currently gearing up for the release of her Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film 'Ponniyin Selvan: II', addressed the media at the promotional event of the movie on Tuesday. Apart from speaking about the film, the actor also spoke about “false or unnecessary writing” which she termed as “insensitive” and hoped that the press will not "perpetuate" it.

Last week, the Delhi High Court restrained several YouTube channels from publishing misleading content on the health of Aaradhya Bachchan, daughter of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya, saying spreading misinformation about a child reflects "morbid perversity".

At the film's press conference, Aishwarya was asked about the irrelevant news content that hurts people emotionally and sentimentally.

"It's so nice that a member from the media only is recognising that that does exist. So that gives us a great hope that you are obviously not going to perpetuate that, you are not going to encourage that and thank you very much for your wise recognition of the negative impact of false writing or unnecessary writing which is insensitive and unnecessary," the 49-year-old actor was quoted as saying by PTI.

"So thank you so much for your support for the sentiment that we all share and for your wisdom in recognising that," she added.

In her long career, Aishwarya has worked with filmmaker Mani Ratnam in many films including ‘Iruvar’, ‘Guru’ and others.

Aishwarya said her answer to a Mani Ratnam movie will always be a "yes".

"You can call it adoration, devotion, thankfulness or love, (shraddha, guru bhakti, kritagyata)... Label it whatever you want to, the point is it will always be a yes. But why wouldn't it be a yes. Any actor deeply aspires to work with him. When that name or message flashes (on the phone), you cannot imagine the excitement," she was quoted as saying by PTI.

Ponniyin Selvan is based on author Kalki's eponymous novel. The first part of the film dramatises the early life of Chola prince Arunmozhi Varman, who would become the renowned emperor Rajaraja I.

While the first part was released back in September 2022, the second part will land in theatres on April 28.

The film also stars Jayam Ravi, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan and Aishwarya Lekshmi.
