New Delhi: India achieved a great feat in Miss Universe 2021 beauty pageant as 21-year-old Harnaaz Sandhu was crowned the winner. With Harnaaz being adjudged as the new Miss Universe 2021, the Punjabi girl brought back the laurel to India after a long wait since 2000. Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu became emotional when she was announced the winner of Miss Universe 2021.
On being crowned as the Miss Universe, Harnaaz expressed her gratitude towards the almighty and her parents and said: "I am immensely grateful to the almighty, my parents, and the Miss India Organization for guiding and supporting me throughout. Loads of love to everyone who prayed and wished the crown for me."
An excited Harnaaz emphatically said,"Chak De Phatte India! Chak De Phatte", as she beamed with joy on being crowned as the Miss Universe.
Harnaaz Sandhu became the 70th Miss Universe. Before Harnaaz, the first Indian to win the Miss Universe title was actor Sushmita Sen in 1994 and later Lara Dutta won the crown in 2000.
Harnaaz Sandhu's coronation was done by Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza from Mexico. Nadia Ferreira, 22, of Paraguay, is the first runner-up in Miss Universe 2021, while South Africa's 24-year-old Lalela Mswane finished third.

Harnaaz Sandhu hails from Chandigarh. She is currently pursuing her Masters' in Public Administration. Harnaaz started modelling during her teenage years.
Harnaaz Sandhu ventured into the world of beauty pageants by winning the title of the Times Fresh Face in 2017. She has also won the title of Femina Miss India Punjab in 2019.
