New Delhi: Mini Mathur, who is one of the most well-known and prosperous Indian television personalities, recalled in a recent interview that she had once spent a whooping sum of Rs 20 lakh in one night. The former VJ acknowledged that she had overspent that day as she went out to eat with 22 people at a posh restaurant to celebrate her victory at a quiz show.
In the Podcast interview, Mini told Cyrus Broacha about a time when she won Rs 20 lakh on a quiz show but lost the entire amount in one night. She went on to speak about the quiz show and told that it was called 'Heartbeat'. In it, the contestants had to answer questions within 100 heartbeats, and the winning amount was Rs 20 lakh.
Then she talked about what she did with the money saying, "I blew it all up in an evening. I did have 22 people and I remember I took them all for dinner to Marriott."
Mini also shared other things about her in the podcast and told that her initial pay at MTV was Rs 50,000, which wasn't much, given the amount of money she was earning in Delhi as a television anchor. Additionally, she also told that she got her first gig in an advertisement with sheer luck when a model did not show up and she was asked to fill in.
"I got a chance opportunity to fill in for a model who never turned up for a Ray-Ban campaign. Sushmita Sen was modelling then, and she was supposed to turn for a woman pilot ad where we had to pitch for a campaign. She didn’t come on time."
Talking about her work, Mini made her television debut as a host with the game show 'Tol Mol Ke Bol'. Apart from that, she was also a VJ on MTV during the last 1990s and later hosted the first few seasons of Indian Idol.
