New Delhi: Matthew McConaughey’s autobiography called Greenlights which was published this month gives a insight into his life through moments he describes as green, yellow or red lights, incidents that prompted him to advance, pause or stop.

He describes the book as love letter to life. He tells how he started the book, “Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries. I found stories I experienced, lessons I learned and forgot, poems, prayers, prescriptions, beliefs about what matters, some great photographs, and a whole bunch of bumper stickers. I found a reliable theme, an approach to living that gave me more satisfaction, at the time, and still: If you know how, and when, to deal with life's challenges - how to get relative with the inevitable - you can enjoy a state of success I call 'catching greenlights.'”
In an interview with USA Today, he said "I had been threatening, daring myself to go open my treasure chest of diaries for the past 15 years but never had the courage to do it.” He considers that hitting 50 was good encouragement.
In the book he shared some chilling facts, like how he was forced to have sex at the age of 15 and how at that age he was "certain he was going to hell for the premarital sex."
"Today, I am merely certain that I hope that's not the case," he says. He even talks about how was molested at 18 by a man knocked him unconscious in a van. McConaughey does affirm that he does not consider himself a victim of the situation. He even opens up about his relationship with his parents, especially his mother with whom he didn’t speak to for 8 years. He talks about his marriage and Camila Alves and his personal philosophy.
Matthew McConaughey is an Academy Award-winning actor, married and a father of three children. His breakout role was the 1993 film Dazed and Confused and in 2014 he won an Academy Award for Best Actor for Dallas Buyers Club for his portrayal of Ron Woodroof , a cowboy who was diagnosed with AIDS in the 80s.
