Celebrities showcased their finest looks at the 2025 Met Gala, the year's most anticipated fashion event, which had as its theme "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" and its dress code "Tailored For You." Lisa from BLACKPINK, who was attending the renowned event for the first time, was among the guests. The K-pop star's look, however, immediately sparked debate and harsh criticism on social media.

K-pop idol Lisa made a big statement as she walked the red carpet in a Louis Vuitton ensemble that included a black, jewelled bodysuit, a glittering jacket and transparent tights. She finished the outfit, which was created in partnership with famous artist Henry Taylor, with a sleek necklace and a dishevelled updo.

Lisa's Controversial Underwear

At first, Lisa's costume was commended for its daring fashion choices and outstanding flair, but things took a turn when media outlets and astute fans pointed out a controversial area of her ensemble. Her underwear had intricate embroidery that seemed to feature Rosa Parks, a legendary civil rights leader who was instrumental in the struggle against racial segregation in the United States.

Reactions from social media users were quick, with many condemning the usage of Parks' picture in this particular context. A user said, "Not apologizing for the nword but got Rosa Parks on your panties is crazy work."

Someone also wrote, “How do you come back from this? Lisa, being an ethnic minority in a country that heavily discriminates poc, having a historical figure like Rosa Parks worn in a vulgar way is wilddd."

Amidst the backlash, Louis Vuitton stood by the embroidery, explaining that the portraits on Lisa's outfit were tributes to "figures who have been a part of the artist’s life."
