New Delhi: IIFA awards 2022 will begin from 2 June onwards. Actress Rhea Chakraborty will also be a part of the awards ceremony where she has been invited to walk the green carpet, host an interaction and also give away an award. Earlier, Rhea had been refrained from traveling abroad after she was accused of a drug case that led to Sushant Singh Rajput's death by the Narcotics Control Bureau in 2020. However, after the actress moved a plea, a special court in Mumbai granted her permission to travel to Abu Dhabi, where the IIFA awards will be taking place, for four days.

As per the court's directive, Rhea will have to visit the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi everyday to mark her attendance for the four days she will be attending the awards ceremony.

The same attendance sheet will later be presented to the same court on her return. Rhea has also been asked to submit a cash security of Rs 1 lakh in the registry of the court.

Rhea Chakraborty was arrested on September 8, 2020 and released on bail a month later. Her passport was also submitted and permission to travel abroad without court's directive was denied.

Rhea's lawyer Nikhil Manishinde filed a plea on Rhea's behalf at the Mumbai Sessions court asking permission for her to travel to Abu Dhabi for 4 days.

"That due to the present criminal prosecution and surrounding circumstances, the Applicant has already suffered significant setbacks to her acting career and incurred significant financial losses. Hence, opportunities such as these are extremely important for the Applicant’s future prospects in the Film Industry and greatly impact her ability to earn her own livelihood. It would not be out of place to mention that the Applicant’s aged parents are also financially dependent on her," Rhea's plea said, quoted The Indian Express.

The court agreed to Rhea's plea and stated that her passport be returned to her for 4 days, on the condition that on the 6th of June, it will be returned to the designated authorities.
