New Delhi: It's no secret that ‘Boycott Trends’ has recently overtaken Bollywood. Actor Arjun Kapoor expressed his displeasure with the fact that actors and actresses take no action when movies are banned on social media. He said that individuals who support boycott attempts are responsible for the industry's collapse and that the industry as a whole has to come together to put an end to this pattern.
Recent conversations on various social media platforms have voiced disapproval of many movies. The films Raksha Bandhan, starring Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha are the most recent films to be targeted by the practise of boycotting on Twitter.
Arjun Kapoor has spoken out on the growing trend of boycotts in Hindi films, saying that the industry's decision to remain quiet was a mistake.
The actor Arjun Kapoor has discussed potential challenges facing the film business in an interview with Bollywood Hungama. He said, “I think we made a mistake by being silent about it and that was our decency but people have started taking advantage of that. I think we made a mistake by thinking that ‘our work will speak for ourselves’. You know you don't always need to get your hand dirty but I guess we tolerated it a lot and now people have made this a habit.”
He continued, “We need to come together and do something about it because what people write about us or the hashtags that trend, are far away from reality. When we do films that do good at the box office, then at that time people like us not because of our surnames but because of the film."
The most recent film starring Arjun Kapoor was Ek Villain Returns, which also starred Disha Patani, Tara Sutaria, and John Abraham. The sequel, Ek Villain Returns, did not do well with critics. The total amount that the movie has made during its existence in theatre is Rs 40 crore.
