New Delhi: As anticipated, Christopher Nolan's 'Openheimer' has smashed the box office in India. The Cilian Murphy starrer has collected an impressive Rs. 13-14 crores on its opening day in India, industry collections tracking site Sacnilk reported.'Barbie', which was released alongside 'Oppenheimer' collected Rs. 5 cr, early estimates reported.

As per industry tracker Sacnilk.com, 'Barbie' had 41.61 percent English occupancy on Friday. The major share went to Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer'.

As per several reports, 'Oppenheimer' is the biggest Hollywood opener in India.

Interestingly, 'Oppenheimer' has not collected so well in the USA, the home market. Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' seems to be doing better in the USA than in India. As per  a Variety report, 'Barbie' collected $ 22.3 million while 'Oppenheimer' collected Rs. 10.5 million.

In India, 'Oppenhiemer's performance is better than Hollywood's last big release 'Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One'.

'MI 7' minted Rs. 12.50 crores on its opening day. The film did outperform Vin Diesel's 'Fast X', which debuted in India with Rs. 12.50 crores on May 19.

'Oppenheimer' is based on the life of American theoretical physicist Robert J. Oppenheimer. The film also recounts the story in the WWII backdrop of the dedicated scientists work which ultimately led to the world's first atomic bombs, as part of the Manhattan Project,  which the US bombed on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, on July 16, 1945, forever changing the course of history.

Meanwhile, as per our in-house review, "Almost every scene comes with an intensely engrossing edit, all of which is backed by a seamless score. The three-hour running duration leaves you with very little downtime; instead, each dialogue and each shot seem to be worth savouring. Take your time absorbing it, as Nolan probably would have wanted you to."

On the other hand, 'Barbie' has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike in India and abroad. 'Barbie' stars Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie in the lead.
