Cheryl, who was a member of Girls Aloud and Liam Payne's ex-girlfriend, is devastated by the singer's tragic death. Bear, the couple's son, is seven years old. Cheryl turned to Instagram to process her loss after what she called an "earth-shattering event." In a statement, she spoke about media exploitation after the singer’s death.

On October 18, Cheryl posted a flashback picture of their young son with Liam Payne, two days after the One Direction singer tragically fell from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

She compassionately reminded everyone that a human life had been lost. She wrote, “Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend, and a father to our 7-year-old son.”

She voiced her concern for their son's future that he would eventually be the subject of media attention and "abhorrent reports" about his father's death. She wrote, “A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again. What is troubling my spirit the most is that one day Bear will have access to the abhorrent reports and media exploitation we have seen in the past two days. It is breaking my heart further that I cannot protect him from that in his future."

Cheryl begged for the late singer to be given "little dignity" in death and to be allowed to rest in "some peace at last" in her touching tribute.

Cheryl and Liam's romance began during the 2008 season of X Factor when they first became friends. They welcomed Bear in 2017 and separated in 2018.
