New Delhi: Comedian Vir Das has won the International Emmy for Comedy. This was Vir Das' first nomination and first won. The comedian won the Best comedy series for his show 'Vir Das: Landing'. His show had a tie with Season 3 of the UK show 'Derry Girls'.

The official X page of Emmys made the announcement on their official social media handle with the caption, "We have a Tie! The International Emmy for Comedy goes to "Vir Das: Landing” produced by Weirdass Comedy / Rotten Science / Netflix #iemmyWIN."

Vir Das is among the four Indians to be nominated at the International Emmys this year. Shefali Shah, Jim Sarbh and Ektaa Kapoor were the other nominees.

Earlier, speaking at The Indian Express Adda, he spoke about stand-up comedy and the role it plays. "My job was created so that kings could be humanised for their subjects and big stars could be seen as fallible. Don’t be mad at me because I have pointed out the cracks (in society). Japanese people fill gold in the cracks and make it beautiful. That’s what we are doing here.” He had said.

While Shefali Shah lost out to Karla Souza for Best Actress Awards, Jim Sarbh has been nominated for the Best Actor award for 'Rocket Boys'.

Ektaa Kapoor also received this year's International Emmy Directorate Award. Producer Ektaa R Kapoor was also honoured with the Directorate Award for her "trailblazing career and impact on the Indian television landscape”.

The Emmys are being hosted by US magician Penn Jillette. The Emmy Awards ceremony is taking place in New York.

The 51st edition of the Emmy Awards is being live streamed on Nov 21, from 6:30 AM onwards.
