The plot is based on the renowned classical Chinese fantasy novel, "Fengshenyanyi." This trilogy is a masterpiece of Eastern high fantasy, depicting the epic mythological battles that took place over three millennia ago among humans, immortals, and monsters.
Story:
The story begins with Lord Su Hu of Jizhou rebelling against the Shang dynasty. The Shang army, led by Prince Yin Shou, quells the rebellion, kills Su Hu, and captures his daughter, Su Daji. Following a series of tragic events, Shou ascends the throne after his brother Crown Prince Qi is killed in a frenzied attack, setting the stage for a cursed dynasty.
Shou, now King, promises ritual suicide to placate the Heavens. Meanwhile, the Immortals of Kunlun consider giving him the Investiture Scroll to restore order. Monk Jiang Ziya, along with his disciples Nezha and Yang Jian, takes the scroll but decides Shou should not wield such power. They are pursued by Shen Gongbao and others, leading to a series of confrontations.
Duke Ji Chang of Xiqi is imprisoned after his secret meeting with other dukes is discovered. Shou’s tyrannical rule intensifies, with executions and betrayals marking his reign. Ji Fa, Ji Chang’s son, eventually leads a rebellion with hostage-sons from Xiqi, culminating in a fierce battle where Ji Fa wounds Shou and escapes.
The plot thickens with supernatural elements, including a man-eating fox spirit possessing Su Daji, and the intervention of divine and demonic forces. The movie ends with cliffhangers and mid-credit scenes showing the fox spirit reviving Shou and other ominous developments.
