Gangubai Kathiawadi helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali is getting love from all quarters. The movie starring Alia Bhatt in a lead role got rave reviews from both critics and fans alike as it hit the theatres on Friday(February 25,2022). The film minted more than Rs 10 crore at the domestic box office on its opening day.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#GangubaiKathiawadi surprises on Day 1 Opens higher than #Raazi [pre-Covid release] While the *industry/trade* was expecting 6.25 cr - 7.25 cr, the strong word of mouth help biz escalate evening show onwards Fri 10.50 cr. #India biz (sic).”
The makers also celebrated the film's tremendous opening at the box-office on Twitter.
Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi was one of the most anticipated releases of the year 2022 and the film's opening numbers are a good sign of Bollywood reviving at the box-office post pandemic.
Gangubai Kathiawadi is a biographical drama based on Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Besides Alia Bhatt, the film also stars Ajay Devgn, Parth Samthaan, Shantanu Maheshwari and Seema Pahwa in pivotal roles.
