Choreographer Ganesh Acharya Accused Of Sexual Harassment, Voyeurism, Stalking; Mumbai Police Files Chargesheet
It's not the first time coworkers have accused Ganesh Acharya of harassment.
New Delhi: Bollywood choreographer Ganesh Acharya has been accused of sexual harassment, voyeurism and stalking. The Mumbai Police have lately filed a charge sheet, according to a report by Bombay Times. A fellow dancer accused Ganesh Acharya of the alleged wrongdoings. Reports say it was filed in 2020.
A charge sheet has been submitted by the Andheri metropolitan magistrate, according to the Oshiwara station's investigating police officer, Sandeep Shinde.
Indian Penal Code Sections 354-a (sexual harassment), 354-c (voyeurism), 354-d (stalking), 509 (insulting the modesty of any woman), 323 (causing harm), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (common intention to commit an offence) have been charged against the choreographer and his assistant.
Ganesh Acharya's legal team announced in February 2020 that they filed a defamation suit against the co-dancer after the Mumbai Police issued a FIR on the allegation of the co-dancer. The co-dancer said that Acharya began harassing her following her rejection of Acharya's sexual approaches.
She claims that he told her in May 2019 that she had to have sex with him if she wanted to be successful. The Indian Film and Television Choreographers Association terminated her membership because of her rejection, she alleged.
The lady has allegedly accused Acharya's assistants of hitting her. She said, "The female assistants beat me up, abused me and defamed me after which I went to the police who refused to lodge a complaint and merely registered a non-cognisable case. Then I contacted a lawyer to take the matter further."
It's not the first time coworkers have accused Ganesh of harassment. Allegations were levelled against Ganesh, who categorically rejected them all. Ganesh's lawyer, Ravi Suryavanshi, claimed that neither he nor the Mumbai police had any knowledge of the charge sheet against his client.
