New Delhi: Vivek Oberoi has openly discussed his very personal story of losing his childhood lover to cancer, a devastating loss that influenced his perspective on relationships and love. In a recent interview with MensXP, the ‘Saathiya’ actor talked about the emotional turmoil he went through during a difficult time in his early adulthood.

Recounting how he started dating as a youngster, Vivek said, “Very early in my life, my childhood sweetheart—she was 12, I was 13, and we were dating. We entered a relationship when I was 18, and she was 17. I thought, ‘This is it. She’s the one.’ I envisioned us going to college together, getting married, and having kids. I had my life planned out in my mind.”

Vivek shared that his girlfriend was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of 17, and his hopes for the future were shattered. She died within two months despite attempts to save her, leaving Vivek devastated.

He said, "It was a complete shock. Despite everything we tried, she passed away within two months. I was broken and shattered.”

Vivek also talked about his inability to accept her death and how he would see her in the faces of strangers. “Her death affected me so deeply that, for a long time, I would see her in random people walking by, even though I was there at her cremation. I had closure, but I refused to accept that she was gone. What helped me was working with children battling cancer,” the actor shared.

Vivek eventually fell in love once again, marrying Priyanka Alva in 2010. Vivaan Veer and Ameya Nirvana are the couple's two children, and they currently live in Dubai.
