New Delhi: 'Tiku Weds Sheru' is Avneet Kaur's big Bollywood debut alongside veteran actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The Kangana Ranaut production has been in the news ever since the trailer launch. Now it seems, Kangana Ranaut is capitalizing on her career's two big controversies; one involving the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, and another involving Hrithik Roshan.
For those unaware, Kangana Ranaut's Mumbai office was partially demolished by the BMC a few years ago. She had then criticised the action and called it a politically motivated move. Kangana had taken a dig at the BMC through the trailer of 'Tiku Weds Sheru' and now it seems that a new promo video of the film has taken a dig at Hrithik Roshan. Earlier, in the trailer, Nawazuddin's characters Sheru, refuses to take permission from another characters, and a reasons, "Are you the BMC that I should take permission from you?” Now, in the new promo video, there is a mention of Hrithik Roshan, a long-running defamation feud which is subjudice and thus on which the actor barely comments.
In the new promo video shared by Nawzuddin Siddiqui on Twitter, we see Sheru introduce himself as a 'big-time Bollywood producer of small films.' To prove his title, he shows a picture of him with the likes of Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Soon after, he adds "Hrithik gaya hua tha isliye nahi hai (Hrithik was not available, that’s why he isn’t here).”
Not just these obvious references, like many films which use meta-comment as a device , 'Tiku Weds Sheru's new promo also draws a meta-referencing moment at 'Gangs of Wasseypur Part II', when he says that he is looking for a woman who can be his wife and take care of his 'bhai, baap, dada.' Sheru then adds that he has no bad habits over him having a shot of drink.
'Tiku Weds Sheru' is an upcoming romantic drama which is also satirical. The film's official synopsis reads, "Sheru and Tiku are marginalized souls from the underprivileged strata of society. They are ambitious for a better life but life has different plans for them. Shiraz, popularly known as Sheru, hails from Bhopal, a small-town in India. Sheru comes to Mumbai in search of a better life. Being semi-literate, he works as a pimp for a local don, Shahid Bhai, and also as a junior artist as a decoy job, where he finds girls for his pimping business. He risks everything to win the confidence of his boss to be promoted as an equal partner. Taslim, aka Tiku, lives with her large conservative Muslim family in Bhopal. To break free from her family, she runs away to Delhi under the pretext of higher studies, where she falls in love with a man from a different religion, but her family marry her off to the first available eligible bachelor, Sheru. Sheru accepts the proposal in desperation of repaying a loan, while Tiku sees Sheru as her passport to freedom. However, Sheru falls in love with Tiku but they get caught between the chaos of the underworld, drugs, and romance and face one tragedy after the other without any time to deal with their sorrow."
Directed by Sai Kabir and also starring debutante Avneet Kaur, Tiku Weds Sheru will be released on Prime Video on June 23.
