New Delhi: Sushmita Sen's career in Bollywood has been rather fascinating. She entered the film business after winning the 1994 Miss Universe competition. However, the actress was mocked when her association with tycoon Lalit Modi became public. Sushmita Sen was the target of online trolling last year when former IPL chairman Lalit Modi publicly declared his love for her by posting mushy photos of the two of them together. Sushmita Sen has now responded to the trolls who referred to her as a "gold digger".
As soon as Sushmita Sen broke up with Rohman Shawl, rumours began circulating that she was dating Lalit Modi for money. Sen said that she found it funny that so many people had called her a gold digger.
In an interview with Barkha Dutt of Mojo Story, Sen said, “The only reason that I put out that post was to laugh at it. I wasn’t that pained. It was just amusing because you call a woman a gold digger, and you are monetising that gold digger by writing stories on her.”
The actress went on to say that it bothers her when good people remain silent. She said, "What bothers me is that when good people keep quiet, the bad just thrives. I have seen that happen too many times. We think it’s not elegant to respond. Let elegance be damned."
"I just need people to know I am laughing my lungs out, and it just shows me that generations have changed, but people haven’t changed morally and ethically much,” Sushmita concluded.
Sushmita Sen recently portrayed transgender activist Gauri Sawant in the online series ‘Taali’. The series, directed by Ravi Jadhav, chronicles Sawant's efforts to secure transgender people's status as a distinct gender under the law. ‘Taali’ is now available to watch on Jio Cinema.
