Salman Khan has been facing a series of death threats from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang, with the situation escalating over the past year. NCP leader and Baba Siddique’s recent killing has intensified the threat. Amid these security concerns, Khan’s long-time bodyguard, Shera, remains by his side, playing a crucial role in safeguarding the Bollywood superstar. Shera, who has been with Salman for nearly three decades, had once opened up about his journey with the actor, his deep bond with him, and the growing challenges of keeping the star safe.
How Shera met Salman Khan
Shera, whose real name is Gurmeet Singh, first joined Salman Khan’s security team 29 years ago. In a recent interview, Shera recalled how it was Salman’s brother, Sohail Khan, who introduced him to the actor during a stage show.
“I met Salman Khan through Sohail Khan for the first time during a show. Sohail wanted security for Salman because there was some issue at a stage show. At that time, I used to wear a turban. When Sohail Bhai saw me, he said, ‘Why don’t you be with Salman Bhai?’ I agreed and initially, I was with him only during the shows; it wasn’t a regular thing. Slowly, I bonded with Bhai, and that relationship has endured to this day,” he told Zoom TV.
Shera on his relationship with Salman Khan
“Our jodi is unique—he’s a Pathaan, I’m a Sardar, and together, we’re unbeatable,” Shera told Zoom. He also expressed his unwavering loyalty to the star, adding, “I’ve told Bhai, ‘Jab tak mein hu, tab tak mein apki seva karunga' (As long as I’m here, I will serve you).”
"I’ve been with Salman for 29 years. Many bodyguards move on to other stars, but I’ve stuck with Bhai because no one else can manage him like I do,” he added.
Shera on difficulties managing Salman Khan's security
Over the past year, Salman’s security has been significantly tightened, and he now has Y-plus security. His security was upgraded following a series of threats from Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang.
In an interview with ANI, Shera highlighted the difficulties in managing crowds during Salman’s public appearances. “The biggest challenge is managing the crowd of his fans,” Shera explained. “We protect Salman bhai, and local security helps control the crowd. When you’re in security, it’s all about making the right decision at the right moment.”
Salman Khan and Lawrence Bishnoi
Salman’s close friend, political leader Baba Siddique, was murdered in Mumbai. A member of Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang claimed responsibility for the killing and issued a chilling warning to Salman, further intensifying the actor’s security concerns.
Bishnoi’s animosity towards Salman dates back to the infamous 1998 blackbuck poaching case, which deeply angered the Bishnoi community. Despite being behind bars, Lawrence Bishnoi’s threats to Salman’s life continue.
Salman, meanwhile, continues with his professional commitments, working on Bigg Boss 18 and his upcoming film, Sikandar.
